Rules for the 2012-2014 Pulling Season

Contest Rules & Procedures:   
 

  1. SAFETY IS ALWAYS FIRST!
  2. Operate in a safe manner at all times.
  3. Must be 18yrs old,or 16 with parental consent (14yrs in LLPF with approval and consent)
  4. No alcohol before operating or pulling equipment
  5. Drivers only—no riders on/in pulling vehicles
  6. Registration is 1hr. before posted start time and closes 30 minutes after .(please sign in as soon as you get here!) If you're going to be late call ahead. Roll call at this time for drivers meetings BE THERE!
  7. Pulling order will be determined by random drawing & posted at sign-up and trackside
  8. Each puller will have 2 attempts for a measurable distance, you must attempt to stop before the 100ft. marker
  9. The 1st puller in a class will have the option to drop the 1st hook and comeback immediately,or the 6th position,may drop to last for REAL mechanical breakage at techs ok.
  10. Track Official shall set the FULL PULL mark by the 3rd official puller of the class
  11. Full Pull mark options will be 300ft-310ft-320ft ,with ONLY THE TOP 3 returning for a pull-off with ALL over 320ft returning.
  12. ALWAYS obey the flag persons,if a rehook is warranted it will be granted, SAFETY FIRST!

 

 General Rules:

 

 
  1. Safety First
  2. Drawbar

           TRACTORS:

  1. Maximum of 20 inches to the top of the hitch point to the ground ; Minimum of 18 inches from center of rear axel to hook point
  2. Minimum of ¾ inch thick steel, to maximum of 1.25 inch thick steel with a minimum of a 3.5 inch long hole by 3 inches wide; minimum pin size of 7/8 inch or two ¾ inch bolts at pivot point (NO drop hitches or trick hitches allowed)
  3. Drawbar and assembly must be strong and rigid in all directions, to be inspected by the tech official
  4. Hitching point must be parallel with and not lower than the drawbar (NO drop hitches).
  5. Drawbars must be constructed in such a way that in the event of drawbar breakage, the supports do not pull from a top link or brace above the centerline of the rear axle of the vehicle.

           TRUCKS:

     1. Hitches;

            a.Hook point to be a minimum of 44 inches from center of rear axel to hook point
            b.Hitch height to be a maximum of 26 inches
            c.Hitches to be strong and rigid in all directions         

  1. Weights
    1. All weights must be secured
    2. No weights shall interfere with the hooking of the sled
    3. Front weights shall not extend beyond 13 feet from the center of the rear axle
    4. Rear weights shall not extend beyond the rear-most part of the tire
    5. Rear wheel weights shall not extend more than 2 feet from the sidewall of the tire

10.  Loss of weights, parts, or excess fluids will result in disqualification.

11.  All tractors are to run on one fuel only.  Acceptable fuels are:

           a.  Gasoline (VP)

           b.  Diesel

           c.  Alcohol

           d.  Propane/lp gas

           e.  NO nitro-methane, nitrous oxide, or nitro-propane

12.  Water injection is allowed.  Alcohol, washer fluid, and other enhancers are not allowed.  Pump lubricant is
        acceptable.  Water injection is allowed as per class rules.

13.  Protests

a.  ALL protests and complaints are to be made to the tech official(s), NOT to promoters.  ALL DECISIONS MADE
     BY TECH OFFICIALS ARE FINAL.

b.   If a teardown is warranted, protestors are to post a $500.00 cash fee that goes to the party that stands
     correct in the protest situation.

c.  Violators (cheaters)

·        First offense shall be a disqualification and forfeit of prize money and all entry fees for that day.  Violators will also be suspended from the next sanctioned event with the WNYPFP.

·        Second offense for any rules violation shall be an expulsion for the violator and tractor from competing  with the WNYPFP for one year to date of the violation.

14.         Classes will be:

a.       Limited Light Super Stock—6500 lbs

b.      Heavy Pro Farm—<500cid=10,000 lbs.; 501-640cid = 9300lbs

c.       Limited Light Pro Farm—5700 lbs

d.      Light Pro Farm—6500 lbs

e.      Pro Stock 4x4 Diesel Trucks—8,000 lbs

f.       Pro Street 2.6 4x4 Diesel Trucks—8,000 lbs

15.         All pullers must be 18 years old, or 16 with written parental consent.(14 allowed in LLPF class with approval and consent)

16.         Points system

a.       10 points will be subtracted at roll call at each driver’s meeting for drivers in attendance.

b.      Points awarded will begin at 30 for 1st place, and decrease in 2 point increments per place finish.

 

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

 

1.        All tractors are required to have a steel flywheel (except for tractors competing in the 3200 rpm class limits, but are still recommended), as evidenced by a signed, notarized document.

2.        All tractors are required to have a securely fastened scatter blanket so that the bell housing is 360° protected.  All inspection holes must be properly covered and have 6 inches of overlap (exception: LL Pro Farm ~ recommended but not required)

3.        Side shields and firewall must be constructed of a minimum of .060 steel (.090 of Limited Light Super Stock to be ESP compliant) or .125 aluminum.

4.        Steel fans must be 360° shrouded and have side shields.

·        Harmonic balancers and front crank mounted ring gears must also be 360° shrouded with .125 metals.

5.        Fenders and seatbelts are required.  Wearing belts is at driver’s discretion.  Tractor must be equipped with fenders or a solid shield between the driver and tires.  The fender shield must be a minimum of 6 inches wide at the bottom and a minimum of 36 inches at the top.  The fender shield must curl a minimum of 6 inches from vertical out over the tire.

6.        Wheelie bars

a.       Must extend a minimum of 32 inches beyond the center of the rear axle or extend a minimum of 2 inches beyond the rear tires

b.      Must be a maximum of 10 inches off the ground

c.       Pad must be a minimum of 20 square inches (ex: 4” x 5” or 4.5” x 4.5”)

d.      Must be able to support the tractor’s maximum weight

e.      Must have vertical support at least 12 inches high

7.        All tractors must have a spring-loaded dead man’s throttle to make the tractor return to an idle position (not required for Limited Light Pro Farm class)

8.        Safety shut-offs

a.       Diesels must have an air shutoff (rain cap, guillotine, butterfly) that will be spring-loaded and have positive stops.

b.      Shutoffs do not have to stall the tractor, but must prevent a runaway.

c.       There shall be a 2 inch ring (minimum of 1/8 inch thick) at the rear of the tractor above the hitch point and securely mounted to the tractor for the sled safety cable.  Driver must be able to pull the shutoff from the cockpit.

d.      Diesels must have a fuel diverter valve to bypass the fuel pump that is operated from the driver’s seat.

e.      Spark plug engines must have an ignition and electric fuel pump interrupter/kill switch (2 inch ring, minimum of 1/8 inch thick) at the rear of the tractor above the hitch point, which will be securely mounted to the tractor for the sled safety cable.  This must have the same shutoff capabilities from the cockpit.  Fuel injected tractors much an inline shutoff between the driven fuel pump and barrel valve.  Driver must be able to operate the valve from the cockpit.

9.        All tractors shall carry a fully charged, onboard, accessible 2.5 lbs fire extinguisher.

10.    All alcohol tractors must have a front-mounted fuel cell/tank and shall not be under the hood.

11.    Exhaust pipes of turbocharged tractors must have a minimum of 3/8 cross bolts in a 90° configuration, 1 inch apart.  If bolts are welded in place, they must protrude and be welded outside of the pipe, NOT flush and plug welded.

12.    Exhaust pipes must discharge vertically—no rain caps are allowed.

13.    All competitors must wear a full face helmet with a visor shield and fire proof jacket (except Light Enhanced).

14.    All competitors in the Limited Light Super Stock and Pro Stock Trucks classes must wear a full SFI-approved suit.

15.    ROPS or cages are recommended but not required for classes, except Limited Light Super Stock, which are required.

16.    See class specific rules for any and all exceptions.

 

 

CHASSIS RULES

 

1.        Chasses shall be OEM for make of tractor (to include transmission, rear end, and axle housings).  OEM replacements are acceptable.

2.        Frame may be modified in any way to accept any legal engine, as long as it is safe and engine is in factory location.

3.        Length shall be a maximum of 13 feet from the center of the rear axle to the furthest weight forward, with a maximum of 114-inch wheelbase.

4.        Engine must be of same manufacturer as tractor, but not necessarily the same model, and cylinder head must match cylinder block.  Engine must meet cubic inch requirements of class.

5.        NO converting diesel heads to accept spark plugs to run gas or alcohol.

6.        Added safety equipment is welcome if not necessary for your class (ex: ROPS, cages, tie bars, etc.)

7.        All tractors must have a wide front end.  Front wheels must track in the path of the rear wheels, except Limited Light Pro Farm, where narrow fronts are allowed.

CLASS SPECIFIC RULES


 

LIGHT PRO FARM
1.  All general, safety, and chassis rules apply.

  1. Tires max:  20.8 x 34 OR 18.4 x 38—any cut allowed
  2. Turbocharged tractors may use the following fuels
    1. Gasoline
    2. Propane
    3. Diesel
    4. Alcohol
  3. Fuel Delivery
    1. Diesel engines can run up to an A-series Bosch injection pump.
    2. Spark plug turbo tractors must be carbureted.
  4. Turbo size:  2.5 intake (no sleeves or other housing modifications ~ ex: grooves).  There is no exhaust limit.
  5. Turbocharged tractors are limited to 410 cubic inches and can run a maximum of 3200 rpm.
  6. Naturally aspirated tractors can be a maximum of 800 cubic inches and can run unlimited rpm.
    1. All safety equipment is required

                                                               i.      Steel flywheel and clutch components

  1. No tractor will be allowed an electronically-controlled engine (ex: electronic fuel injection)
  2. Tie bars are required on all tractors.
  3. No intercoolers of any kind are permitted.

    HEAVY PRO FARM
  4. All general, safety, and chassis rules apply.
  5. RPM Limit
    1. Less than 500 cubic inches = open rpm and 3x3 turbo @ 10,000 lbs
    2. Less than 500 cubic inches = 3200 rpm and any turbo @10, 700 lbs
    3. Less than 540 cubic inches = 3500 rpm and 3x3 turbo @ 10, 200 lbs
    4. Any tractor running over 3200 rpm must have steel flywheel and signed, notarized proof thereof.
  6. Tires max: 24.5 x 32, 23.1 x 34, 20.8 x 38; any cut allowed.
  7. Turbocharged tractors are to be diesel only.  Turbo base is not to exceed 2.75 x 3.5 with NO welded or modified housings.
  8. The maximum engine size is 540 cubic inches for 6 cylinder engines.  V-8 engines are allowed up to 640 cubic inches.
  9. There will be NO sleeving of turbochargers to meet size requirements.
  10. Tractors can run a maximum of P-series injection pumps.
  11. No after-market after coolers are allowed; factory only, NO ice, jacket water only.
  12. Water injection is allowed (water only) NO direct in-head port injection
  13. Chassis: OEM rear end, axel, transmission, clutch, and bell housings with wheel base max of 114 inches & 13 feet to the furthest point forward.  The rails and front ends may be change.
  14. Engine must be of original make and model that tractor was originally equipped; NO decubing or deck plates, OEM head, intake, and exhaust manifolds.
  15. ROPS or roll cage is welcome, and will be mandatory for 2011 season.

LIMITED LIGHT PRO FARM

  1. All general and safety rules apply.
  2. Tires max:  18.4 x 38 (no cuts permitted)
  3. All tractors will be naturally aspirated.
  4. All engines must match tractor make and be under 410 cubic inches.
    1. Engine does not have to match specific model, but must be of agricultural use.
    2. Engine block must match cylinder head and be of factory-intended fuel (ex: no diesel engine is permitted to run on gasoline)
    3. Pre-existing Club tractors that are larger than 410 cubic inches are legal through the 2011 season, as per Club agreement.  NO new tractors and/or engines will be allowed to exceed this limit.
  5. Fuels allowed in class will be:
    1. Gasoline (race gas)
    2. Propane
    3. Diesel fuel
    4. NO alcohol
  6. All spark ignition tractors will run a single updraft carburetor, with a maximum of 2.25 inch butterfly with a 2 bolt flange.
  7. Spark ignition engines must use a distributor (no crank-triggered ignition).
  8. All diesel tractors must run a stock-appearing fuel pump.
  9. All competing tractors will run a maximum 3200 rpm, to be checked by tech official(s).
  10. No front weights should extend more than 11 feet from the center of the rear axle.
  11. Any front end configuration is allowed, as long as it is safe.
  12. Safety requirements for the class are:
    1. Wheelie bars—constructed as per general rules
    2. Kill switches
    3. Any other safety features are recommended but not required.

  

LIMITED LIGHT SUPERSTOCK

General

  1. Tractor must be equipped with a roll cage, including a 5-point harness seat.
  2. Tire size is limited to 24.5 x 32.
  3. Tractor must be equipped with .090 steel or .125 aluminum side shields, securely fastened with quick-release fasteners (winged DUS-type or cotter pin hood-type pins).  Side shields must cover from top of frame to the hood and the length of the engine.
  4. Tractor must be equipped with a metal deflection shield between the driver and the engine (from the top of the torque tube, transmission housing, or clutch housing to the top of the hood, and side shield to side shield).
  5. No ether bottle or other starting aids are allowed in the engine compartment.
  6. Tractors must run either a one-piece frame extending from the front of the tractor to the rear axle housing mounting bolts OR tie bars running from the rear axle housing (minimum 4 axle housing bolts) extending to the forward part of the clutch housing to the frame with minimum 2-5/8 bolts.  Frame tie bars and mounting bolts must be sufficient to support the weight of the tractor.  The clutch safety blanket must be on the inside of the tie bar.
  7. The second drawbar must be 8 inches below the primary drawbar and must not interfere with the measurement of the primary drawbar.  A hole in the secondary drawbar is recommended to be covered when not in use.
  8. Diesels will compete at 6700 lbs and spark plug tractors will compete at 6400 lbs.

 

Engine

  1. Engine must be the OEM manufacturer block for the said tractor and/or follow heritage lines as manufacturer progressed and/or changed companies.
  2. There is a maximum of 315 cubic inches (no tolerance) for twin turbocharged engines.
  3. There is a maximum of 410 cubic inches (no tolerance) for single turbocharged engines.
  4. NO larger cubic inch engines as produced by manufacturer may be de-cubed to be considered legal.
  5. Cylinder head(s) must be the OEM manufacturer casting for said tractor and engine block or factory replacement block at the time of manufacture.  The original casting must be retained.  Porting and polishing of the original parts is allowed.  Modifications to the cylinder head(s) to accept for billet, casted, re casted, or any other kind of insert is NOT allowed.  It is limited to two valves per cylinder and no overhead cams.
  6. Turbocharger(s) shall not exceed a 3-inch inlet and a 4-inch outlet measured at the face of the wheels.  No “step-down” intake housing, exhaust housing, or wheels of any kind are allowed.  The intake wheel and the exhaust wheel must protrude the maximum dimensions at least 1/8 inch into housings.  No secondary source of air and no slots are allowed.  Housing slots must be permanently disabled by being welded shut.  NO temporary inserts or plugs are allowed.
  7. Turbocharger(s) must be under stock hood or shrouded end to end with .060 steel or heavier.  Turbocharger(s) must also be shrouded if under a fiberglass or plastic hood.
  8. The use of superchargers is NOT allowed.
  9. Diesel engines operating on diesel are allowed.  Spark plug engines running on alcohol are allowed.  *See specific limitations at the end of the rules.
  10. The largest fuel system allowed is a P-series pump with one plunger per cylinder and one injector per cylinder.  One electronically controlled fuel system is allowed.
  11. NO secondary source of fuel (liquid or gas) or oxygen enhancer is allowed.
  12. Engines must have one 3/8 safety cable completely surrounding the block and head running between the first and second cylinders through the exhaust port manifold area.  There must be a minimum of 2 clamps at each splice, with 4-6 inches of slack.
  13. NO mechanical fans are allowed.

 

Other Requirements

 

  1. Tractors must be equipped with a starter interrupter switch on the gearshift, which will only allow the tractor to be started in a neutral gearshift position.  NO bypass switches are allowed.
  2. A safety light system is required.  A white automotive quality light (minimum of 2 inches in diameter) must be directly mounted above or below the kill switch at the rear of the tractor.  The light is to be activated by a shift lever such that it will only be illuminated when the tractor is in reverse or neutral.

 Alcohol (spark plug) Tractors

 

  1. Alcohol tractors will be allowed to compete at 370 cubic inch (no tolerances) with a single 3x4 turbocharger.
  2. Alcohol tractors must use a sparkplug head engine (NO diesel conversions allowed).
  3. Alcohol tractors must abide by all general safety rules in regards to shutoffs and kill switches.
  4. Alcohol tractors will compete at 6400 lbs unless executive committee deems that a change is necessary.

  

STREET 4x4 DIESEL TRUCKS

  1. All general safety rules apply.
  2. All trucks must be licensed for the highway, and must provide license and registration
  3. Class weight will be 8,000 lbs.
  4. All trucks are subject to random tech inspection (inside and out) at Tech Official’s discretion.
  5. Trucks must have full interior/exterior and must be stock in appearance.  All factory controls must be operative.  Trucks must be a street-driven vehicle.
  6. Hanging weights are NOT allowed.  Front bumpers must be unaltered.
  7. NO after-market transfer cases or transmissions are allowed.  Must be OEM and available in 1-ton and smaller.
  8. Engine must be out of factory 1-ton or smaller pickups.  Engine swaps ARE allowed.
  9. DOT tires ONLY; no studs, cut, or sharpened tires will be allowed.
  10. Single turbochargers ONLY; inlet to be no larger than 2.5 with no sleeved, slots, of stepped wheels
  11. Injection pumps must be stock-appearing, dual CP3 pumps or multiple high pressure; common rail pumps are prohibited.
  12. Traction/ladder bars ARE allowed.
  13. NO nitrous, propane, alcohol, water injection will be allowed ~ diesel only.
  14. Trucks must have OEM fuel tanks—fuel cell prohibited.
  15. Bell housing blankets are required for engines turning over 4200 rpm for all transmissions, unless proof of certified clutch and flywheel can be shown.
  16. Must pull from a Reese-style hitch. Hook point must be at the furthest point of the vehicle, and must be at least 3.5-inch ID ring or clevis.
  17. Maximum hitch height is 26 inches.
  18. Rear suspension must have at least 2 inches of movement before hitting stops.
  19. All exhaust must discharge upward.

 

PRO STOCK 4x4 DIESEL TRUCKS

  1. All general safety rules apply.
  2. Class weight will  be 8,000 lbs
  3. All trucks are subject to random tech inspection (inside and out) at Tech Official’s discretion.
  4. Exhaust must exit upward.  It may exit through the hood.  The exhaust pipe must have 2-3/8 bolts in a cross pattern no more than one inch apart.
  5. Truck’s interior must have driver’s seat and seatbelt.  The exterior must be stock in appearance.
  6. Hanging weights ARE allowed, no further than 60 inches from the center of the front axle.
  7. NO after-market transfer cases or transmissions are allowed.  Must be OEM and available in 1-ton and smaller.
  8. Engine must be out of factory 1-ton or smaller pickups.  Engine swaps ARE allowed.
  9. DOT tires ONLY; no studs, cut, or sharpened tires will be allowed.
  10. NO nitrous, propane, alcohol, etc. will be allowed (diesel only); water injection is allowed.
  11. Traction/ladder bars are allowed.
  12. Drive shaft loops are required; must be ¼-inch steel or 3/8-inch aluminum.  Each yoke must be covered with 6-inch wide U-joint shield and have at least one loop in the center of the shaft.
  13. Trucks must have either an air shutoff or ignition kill switch.  Mechanical fuel pump trucks must have air shutoff on intake pipe.
  14. Bell housing blankets are required for all trucks, along with steel flywheels with certification.  Certified bell housings are accepted with paperwork proof.
  15. Must pull from a Reese-style hitch.  Hook point must be at the furthest point of the vehicle, and must be at least 3.5-inch ID ring or clevis, with at least 7/8 pin grade 8 or better.
  16. Maximum hitch height is 26 inches.
  17. Drivers must wear SFI-approved fire suit & helmet and have fire extinguisher inside of cab.
