- SAFETY IS ALWAYS FIRST!
- Operate in a safe manner at all times.
- No alcohol before operating or pulling equipment
- Drivers only—no riders
- Pullers must shut down before the 100 ft mark in order to restart (breakage must drop to last).
- The first puller in each class has the option to come back.
- Drivers must remain in the seat during pull—if you lose control, you will be flagged.
- Drawbars
- Minimum of 18 inches from the center of the rear axle to the hitch point
- Maximum of 20 inches to the top of the hitch point to the ground
- Minimum of ¾ inch thick steel, to maximum of 1 inch thick steel with a minimum of a 3 inch hole; minimum pin size of 7/8 inch or two ¾ inch bolts at pivot point
- Drawbar and assembly must be strong and rigid in all directions, to be inspected by the tech official
- Weights
- All weights must be secured
- No weights shall interfere with the hooking of the sled
- Front weights shall not extend beyond 13 feet from the center of the rear axle
- Rear weights shall not extend beyond the rear-most part of the tire
- Rear wheel weights shall not extend more than 2 feet from the sidewall of the tir
- Loss of weights, parts, or excess fluids will result in disqualification.
- All tractors are to run on one fuel only. Acceptable fuels are:
- Gasoline (VP)
- Diesel
- Alcohol
- Propane/lp gas
- NO nitro-methane, nitrous oxide, or nitro-propane
- Water injection is allowed. Alcohol, washer fluid, and other enhancers are not allowed. Pump lubricant is acceptable. Port water injection is allowed.
- Protests
- ALL protests and complaints are to be made to the tech official(s), NOT to promoters. ALL DECISIONS MADE BY TECH OFFICIALS ARE FINAL.
- If a teardown is warranted, protestors are to post a $500.00 cash fee that goes to the party that stands correct in the protest situation.
- Violators (cheaters)
- First offense shall be a disqualification and forfeit of prize money and all entry fees for that day. Violators will also be suspended from the next sanctioned event with the WNYPFP.
- Second offense for any rules violation shall be an expulsion for the violator and tractor from competing with the WNYPFP for one year to date of the violation.
- There will be a five tractor minimum to have a class (at promoter’s discretion)
- Classes will be:
- Limited Light Super Stock—6700 lbs
- Heavy Pro Farm—10700 lbs
- Light Enhanced—5700 lbs
- Light Pro Farm—6700 lbs
- All rules will be up for review at the end of the 2008 pulling season.
- All pullers must be 18 years old, or 16 with written parental consent.
- Meetings will be held every first Thursday of the month at the Langford-New Oregon Volunteer Fire Department. Meetings will come to order at 7:30 p.m.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT - All tractors are required to have a steel flywheel (except for tractors competing in the 3200 rpm class limits, but are still recommended), as evidenced by a signed, notarized document.
- All tractors are required to have a securely fastened scatter blanket so that the bellhousing is 360° protected. All inspection holes must be properly covered.
- Side shields and firewall must be constructed of a minimum of .060 steel (.090 of Limited Light Super Stock to be ESP compliant) or .125 aluminum.
- Steel fans must be 360° shrouded and have side shields.
- Harmonic balancers and front crank mounted ring gears must also be 360° shrouded with .125 metals.
- Fenders and seatbelts are required. Wearing belts is at driver’s discretion.
- Wheelie bars
- Must extend a minimum of 32 inches beyond the center of the rear axle or extend a minimum of 2 inches beyond the rear tires
- Must be a maximum of 10 inches off the ground
- Pad must be a minimum of 20 square inches (ex: 4” x 5” or 4.5” x 4.5”)
- Must be able to support the tractor’s maximum weight
- All tractors must have a spring-loaded dead man’s throttle to make the tractor return to an idle position (not required for Light Enhanced class)
- Safety shut-offs
- Diesels must have an air shutoff (rain cap, guillotine, butterfly) that will be spring-loaded and have positive stops.
- Shutoffs do not have to stall the tractor, but must prevent a runaway.
- There shall be a 2 inch ring (minimum of 1/8 inch thick) at the rear of the tractor above the hitch point and securely mounted to the tractor for the sled safety cable. Driver must be able to pull the shutoff from the cockpit.
- Diesels must have a fuel diverter valve to bypass the fuel pump that is operated from the driver’s seat.
- Spark plug engines must have an ignition and electric fuel pump interrupter/kill switch (2 inch ring, minimum of 1/8 inch thick) at the rear of the tractor above the hitch point, which will be securely mounted to the tractor for the sled safety cable. This must have the same shutoff capabilities from the cockpit. Fuel injected tractors much an inline shutoff between the driven fuel pump and barrel valve. Driver must be able to operate the valve from the cockpit.
- All tractors shall carry a fully charged, onboard, accessible 2.5 lbs fire extinguisher.
- All alcohol tractors must have a front-mounted fuel cell/tank and shall not be under the hood.
- Exhaust pipes of turbocharged tractors must have a minimum of 3/8 cross bolts in a 90° configuration, 1 inch apart. If bolts are welded in place, they must protrude and be welded outside of the pipe, NOT flush and plug welded.
- Exhaust pipes must discharge vertically—no rain caps are allowed.
- All competitors must wear a full face helmet with a visor shield and fire proof jacket (except Light Enhanced).
- All competitors in the Limited Light Super Stock class must wear a full SFI approved suit.
- ROPS or cages are recommended but not required for classes, except Limited Light Super Stock.
- See class specific rules for any and all exceptions.
CHASSIS RULES
- Chasses shall be OEM for make of tractor (to include bellhousing, transmission, rear end, and axle housings). OEM replacements are acceptable.
- Frame may be modified in any way to accept any legal engine, as long as it is safe and engine is in factory location.
- Length shall be a maximum of 13 feet from the center of the rear axle to the furthest weight forward, with a wheelbase to be within 6 inches of stock.
- Engine must be of same manufacturer as tractor, but not necessarily the same model, and cylinder head must match cylinder block. Engine must meet cubic inch requirements of class.
- NO converting diesel heads to accept spark plugs to run gas or alcohol.
- Added safety equipment is welcome if not necessary for your class (ex: ROPS, cages, tie bars, etc.)
- All tractors must have a wide front end—no narrow fronts are allowed. Front wheels must track in the path of the rear wheels.
- See class specific rules for any and all exceptions.
CLASS SPECIFIC RULES
LIGHT PRO FARM
- All general, safety, and chassis rules apply.
- Tires max: 20.8 x 34 OR 18.4 x 38—any cut allowed
- Turbocharged tractors may use the following fuels
- Gasoline
- Propane
- Diesel
- Alcohol
- Turbocharged tractors must use factory fuel pump with internal modifications allowed.
- Fuel pump must be factory-equipped for that engine and of agricultural use.
- Ex: DT 360 IH must run model 100 pump, regardless of tractor model.
- Ex: DT 407/361 IH must run roosa master pump, regardless of tractor model.
- Turbo size: 2.5 intake (no sleeves or other housing modifications ~ ex: grooves). There is no exhaust limit.
- Turbocharged tractors are limited to 410 cubic inches and can run a maximum of 3200 rpm.
- Naturally aspirated tractors can be a maximum of 800 cubic inches and can run unlimited rpm.
- All safety equipment is required
- Steel flywheel and clutch components
- Tie bars are required
- No tractor will be allowed an electronically-controlled engine (ex: electronic fuel injection
HEAVY PRO FARM
- All general, safety, and chassis rules apply.
- There is a 3000 rpm limit. If the tractor has a steel flywheel, there is a 3500 rpm limit.
- Tires max: 24.5 x 32, 23.1 x 34, 20.8 x 38; any cut allowed.
- Turbocharged tractors are to be diesel only.
- The maximum engine size is 540 cubic inches for 6 cylinder engines. V-8 engines are allowed up to 640 cubic inches.
- There is a maximum turbo size of 3x3, and there is NO sleeving of turbochargers allowed to meet size requirements.
- Tractors running P-pumps are limited to 3000 rpm.
- No after-market aftercoolers are allowed; factory only, NO ice, jacket water only.
- Frame must be factory with no modifications, except for front axle.
- Engine must be of original make and model that tractor was originally equipped.
LIGHT ENHANCED - All general and safety rules apply.
- Tires max: 18.4 x 38 (no cuts permitted)
- All tractors will be naturally aspirated.
- All engines must match tractor make and be under 450 cubic inches stock.
- Engine does not have to match specific model, but must be of agricultural use.
- Engine block must match cylinder head and be of factory-intended fuel (ex: no diesel engine is permitted to run on gasoline
- Fuels allowed in class will be:
- Gasoline (race gas)
- Propane
- Diesel fuel
- NO alcohol
- All spark ignition tractors will run a single updraft carburetor, with a maximum of 2.25 inch butterfly with a 2 bolt flange.
- Spark ignition engines must use a distributor (no crank-triggered ignition).
- All diesel tractors must run a stock-appearing fuel pump.
- All competing tractors will run a maximum 3200 rpm, to be checked by tech official(s).
- No front weights should extend more than 11 feet from the center of the rear axle.
- Any front end configuration is allowed, as long as it is safe.
- Safety requirements for the class are:
- Wheelie bars—constructed as per general rules
- Kill switches
- Any other safety features are recommended but not required.
LIMITED LIGHT SUPERSTOCK
General
- Chassis must conform to engine being used and retain factory (OEM) transmission case, rear end housing, and axle housings.
- A maximum 114 inch wheelbase is allowed unless tractor was originally produced longer. In that case, the wheelbase will remain stock.
- There will be a maximum length of 13 feet from the center of the rear axle to the furthest-most point forward, including weights.
- Tractor must be equipped with fenders or a solid shield between the driver and tires. The fender shield must be a minimum of 6 inches wide at the bottom and a minimum of 36 inches at the top. The fender shield must curl a minimum of 6 inches from vertical out over the tire.
- Tractor must be equipped with a roll cage, including a 5-point harness seat.
- Tire size is limited to 24.5 x 32.
- Tractor must be equipped with .090 steel or .125 aluminum side shields, securely fastened with quick-release fasteners (winged DUS-type or cotter pin hood-type pins). Side shields must cover from top of frame to the hood and the length of the engine.
- Tractor must be equipped with a metal deflection shield between the driver and the engine (from the top of the torque tube, transmission housing, or clutch housing to the top of the hood, and side shield to side shield).
- No ether bottle or other starting aids are allowed onboard while pulling.
- Tractors must run either a one-piece frame extending from the front of the tractor to the rear axle housing mounting bolts OR tie bars running from the rear axle housing (minimum 4 axle housing bolts) extending to the forward part of the clutch housing to the frame with minimum 2-5/8 bolts. Frame tie bars and mounting bolts must be sufficient to support the weight of the tractor. The clutch safety blanket must be on the inside of the tie bar.
- All weights must be securely fastened to the tractor. NO rubber straps are allowed to hold weights in place.
- Stabilizer bars must extend a minimum of 32 inches behind the center of the rear axle. Pads must not be more than 10 inches off the ground at the 32 inch point. Pads are to have an area of 20 square inches or greater, and be greater than 20 inches apart from the outside of one pad to the other.
- Bars must have a vertical brace that extends 12 inches from the rear of the pad.
- Stabilizer bars must have support braces extending inward to frame, axle, or top of stabilizer bar arms.
- Vertical brace should extend rearward a minimum of 2 inches from radius of rear tire.
- Stabilizer bar and bar assembly must not be mounted to drawbar assembly.
- NO crossbars between stabilizer bars behind the point of hook will be permitted.
- Drawbars must be constructed of minimum 2 inch square steel at any point, including area of pin with pin removed. Pin size must be a minimum of 7/8. The hitch (at hook point) must be a minimum of one square inch of 1 ½ round stock, and a maximum of 1 ½ square or round stock. Hitch opening must be 3 to 3 ¾ wide and 3 ¾ long. Hitch point must not be less than 18 inches from the centerline of the axle.
- Hitching point must be parallel with and not lower than the drawbar (NO drop hitches).
- NO part of the tractor is allowed to interfere with the sled, chain, or hook point during the pull or while being hooked/unhooked.
- The second drawbar must be 8 inches below the primary drawbar and must not interfere with the measurement of the primary drawbar. A hole in the secondary drawbar is recommended to be covered when not in use.
- Drawbars must be constructed in such a way that in the event of drawbar breakage, the supports do not pull from a top link or brace above the centerline of the rear axle of the vehicle.
- It is recommended that the tractor NOT be tied down to tow from the drawbar in any manner.
- Diesels will compete at 6700 lbs.
Engine
- Engine must be the OEM manufacturer block for the said tractor at the time of manufacture or factory replacement block. The engine must conform to clutch housing, transmission, and rear end housing being used.
- There is a maximum of 315 cubic inches (no tolerance) for twin turbocharged engines.
- There is a maximum of 410 cubic inches (no tolerance) for single turbocharged engines.
- NO larger cubic inch engines as produced by manufacturer may be de-cubed to be considered legal.
- Cylinder head(s) must be the OEM manufacturer casting for said tractor and engine block or factory replacement block at the time of manufacture. The original casting must be retained. Porting and polishing of the original parts is allowed. Modifications to the cylinder head(s) to accept for billet, casted, recasted, or any other kind of insert is NOT allowed. It is limited to two valves per cylinder and no overhead cams.
- Turbocharger(s) shall not exceed a 3-inch inlet and a 4-inch outlet measured at the face of the wheels. No “step-down” intake housing, exhaust housing, or wheels of any kind are allowed. The intake wheel and the exhaust wheel must protrude the maximum dimensions at least 1/8 inch into housings. No secondary source of air and no slots are allowed. Housing slots must be permanently disabled by being welded shut. NO temporary inserts or plugs are allowed.
- Turbocharger(s) must be under stock hood or shrouded end to end with .060 steel or heavier. Turbocharger(s) must also be shrouded if under a fiberglass or plastic hood.
- The use of superchargers is NOT allowed.
- Only diesel engines operating on diesel are allowed. Spark plug engines running on alcohol are allowed. *See specific limitations at the end of the rules.
- The largest fuel system allowed is a “p” series pump with one plunger per cylinder and one injector per cylinder. One electronically controlled fuel system is allowed.
- NO secondary source of fuel (liquid or gas) or oxygen enhancer is allowed.
- Water injection is limited to H2O and approved pump lubricants. Intercoolers are allowed.
- Exhaust must be discharged vertically and have two 3/8 inch grade-5 minimum bolts at 90° within one inch of each other.
- The harmonic balancer must be shielded with at least 1/8 inch steel underneath the front of the block, and be secured to the frame with 4-3/8 bolts.
- Engines must have one 3/8 safety cable completely surrounding the block and head running between the first and second cylinders through the exhaust port manifold area. There must be a minimum of 2 clamps at each splice, with 4-6 inches of slack.
- There must be a spring-loaded closing mechanism for air shutoff. To be deemed acceptable, when activated, the shutoff mechanism must prevent boost of the engine. The kill switch must be mounted securely to the back of the tractor and have a 2 inch minimum diameter ring (1/8 inch thick). The operator must be able to control this from the driver’s seat.
- The fuel system must have a manual three-way dump valve installed ahead of the injection pump, to be operated by the operator in the driver’s seat.
- Tractors must have a dead man’s throttle with two return springs that automatically returns to idle when released by the driver.
- NO mechanical fans are allowed.
Clutch/Flywheel
- Must have SFI 1.1 or 1.2 approved billet flywheel and clutch assembly components. Absolutely NO cast metal is allowed in clutch/flywheel assembly components.
- Must have SFI 4.2 clutch/flywheel blanket that meets the following minimum specifications:
- 17 inches wide
- Long enough to wrap around bellhousing with at least 6 inches of overlap
- Fastened with at least six 2-inch wide nylon web straps sewn in the length of the blanket, with steel D-rings on the end
- Secured to the tractor chassis with four 2-inch wide web straps each at the front and back of the blanket
Other Requirements
- Tractor must have at least 200 lbs of moveable weight.
- Tractors must be equipped with a starter interrupter switch on the gearshift, which will only allow the tractor to be started in a neutral gearshift position. NO bypass switches are allowed.
- A safety light system is required. A white automotive quality light (minimum of 2 inches in diameter) must be directly mounted above or below the kill switch at the rear of the tractor. The light is to be activated by a shift lever such that it will only be illuminated when the tractor is in reverse or neutral.
- Tractor must have a 2.5 lb fire extinguisher that is convenient to the operator.
- The driver is required to wear a fire suit, gloves, shoes, and head sock (minimum SFI 3.2) and a helmet (minimum Snell 85 or SFI 31.1, 32.2, 41.1, or 41.2).
Alcohol (spark plug) Tractors
- Alcohol tractors will be allowed to compete at 410 cubic inch (no tolerances) with a single 3x4 turbocharger.
- Alcohol tractors must use a sparkplug head engine (NO diesel conversions allowed).
- Alcohol tractors must abide by all general safety rules in regards to shutoffs and kill switches.
- Turbocharger size on alcohol engines is up for review at the end of the 2008 pulling season.
- Alcohol tractors will compete at 6400 lbs unless executive committee deems that a change is necessary.
4WD DIESEL PICKUP TRUCKS
- All general safety rules apply.
- Trucks will compete with diesel fuel only.
- Water injection is allowed with pump lubricant, but no other enhancement.
- NO nitrous oxide is allowed.
- Only single turbochargers of any size are allowed.
- Must run a factory DOT-approved tire.
- Front weights can hang no further than 60 inches from the center of the axle to the furthest point.
- SFI blankets are required on all trucks, or SFI bellhousings. Blankets must be secured in all directions, to be determined by tech official.
- A two pound fire extinguisher is required within reach of driver.
- All pullers must wear a fire jacket and helmet.
- No aftermarket transfer cases or transmissions. Must be OEM and available in 1 ton and smaller truck.
- Enshine must be out of factory 1 ton or smaller pickup. engine swaps ARE allowed.
- Driveshaft loops are required.
- All trucks must have at least six-inch wide u-joint shields around the rear u-joint, constructed of at least ¼-inch steel or 3/8-inch aluminum that will safely contain the u-joint and the ends of each shaft.
- In addition, there will be at least one shaft loop in the middle of the drive shaft.
- All shields must be securely mounted to the vehicle.
- Any front shaft u-joint that is visible from the side of the truck must be shielded to contain the u-joint and the end of the shaft.
- The front yoke must be covered with ¼-inch steel.
- There is a maximum drawbar hooking height of 26 inches.
- All trucks must have either an air or electric kill switch.
- All trucks must weigh in before they pull and be limited to 8000lbs.
- All trucks are subject to a random tech inspection inside and out at the tech officials discretion.
- DOT tires, no studs, cust or sharpened tires.
- Single turbo charger only, unlimited size
- No nitrous, propane, alcohol, et.c, only #2 Diesel fuel ONLY...water injection IS allowed
